Hi All,

We're so thankful for the Easter season and the new life it represents!  This year, Spring has been a particularly reflective time for me - processing family grief, reading through Scripture and pausing to remember, in a fresh light, who we are, who God is and what Jesus has done for us.

Isaiah 30:15 says "you will be delivered by returning and resting; your strength will lie in quiet confidence".  The worldview of SELF would say..."if achievement and acclaim are our chief end, effort is our primary means." (Amanda Williams, She Reads Truth).  What a beautiful reminder from Isaiah that our strength and deliverance lie not in our own efforts and striving, but in intimacy with Jesus.

STRENGTH is one of the weekly themes in our Safe Home! Women learn in group discussions and relationship, to understand the source of their strength and worth, and the safety in finding rest in Jesus. The same loving encouragement is shared within each Out of Darkness team encounter!  This month, I invite you to join us in taking the time to return and rest in who Jesus is and the abundant new life we have in Him everyday!

Thank you, always, for your prayer and partnership!

Joyfully,

Mel Meyer

The 2018 Legislative Session ended late Thursday evening, March 29th.  While there are items to celebrate, there are other items that will require your voice in 2019.  Here's the wrap-up:
  • SB 39, which increases penalty provisions for Pimping and Pandering, PASSED!
  • HB 732, which makes provisions under crimes and offenses for the trafficking of an individual for sexual servitude, PASSED!
  • HR 1865, which is federal legislation that allows states and victims to fight online sex trafficking, PASSED!  This bill means children who have been trafficked can fight their online traffickers and it ensures there is NO legal protection for traffickers.  Immediately after this legislation passed, many online prostitution sites closed!
  • HR 447, which declares pornography a public health crisis, never got out of the rules committee.
  • HB 509, the Human Trafficking Prevention Act, never got out of committee.
  • It is also important to note that an association of strip clubs is challenging the constitutionality of the Safe Harbor Act.  A Georgia Superior Court judge is set to make a decision on the case by June 2018.
Big thanks to everyone who wrote, emailed, called and pounded the steps of the Capitol!  Continue praying for our elected officials as this is an election year.  We are looking forward to the 2019 legislative session!
