One of our faithful Frontline Response volunteers who loves to serve on our homeless outreaches recently called our case manager with a request. She wanted to know if we could offer any assistance to Rex, a man whom she had been trying to help get off the streets and who was living in a homeless shelter at the time. Our case manager began calling around to our partners and was able to find a bed for Rex in a long-term care program. He called Rex to let him know to gather his belongings and that one of our volunteer drivers would be there shortly to pick him up and transport him to the facility for his intake interview. While waiting for our driver, Rex told David, another man living in the shelter, that if he really wanted help, he should talk to these folks at Frontline Response because "they will help you get off the streets permanently." Whether he realized it or not, he had just planted a seed of hope in David! As our volunteer and Rex were leaving the shelter, David asked if he could also get some help. After a quick call to Frontline Response, our case manager found an open bed for David in a detox facility, so both men hopped in the van with our driver and off they went! The bed for David was first come, first served, so there was a sense of urgency. Our volunteer left Rex in very capable hands at his new program facility and continued the drive to get David where he needed to be. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, the bed had already been filled; however, the intake personnel let our driver know that they would likely have another bed open the next morning. Determined to get in and change the course of his life, David spent the night just outside the entrance to the lobby. Our case manager met David at the facility bright and early the next morning for his intake. David was admitted to the one available bed and began his first day of detox. One week later, he was discharged from the detox facility and accepted into a long-term treatment program. David recently called our case manager to thank him and to let him know how incredibly grateful he is for Frontline Response, for the driver who transported him, for the lady who was kind to him at intake, for everyone who had helped him along the way. David said he never thought the program would be what he needed, but that he was pleasantly surprised at how the other men in the program had opened up to him and made him feel welcome right from the start! David still has a long recovery journey ahead of him for sure, but he conveyed to our case manager that he had received his 30-day chip the night before to celebrate freedom from substance use. He also shared that he had previously received a 30-day chip but had come by it dishonestly, not telling the truth about a relapse. This time, however, was the real deal. David stated many times over how incredibly grateful he was for everyone involved in his rescue. One day at a time, with God's help, all things are possible! With grateful hearts for the faithful support of our dedicated partners, Frontline Response was able to cover the expense of the long-term care for both Rex and David. Our amazing volunteer rescue teams and drivers play a major part in each of these success stories, and we are inspired by their service! Our hotline numbers are answered by staff and trained volunteers around the clock. Just as we respond to the calls that come in to our hotlines, we're asking you to journey alongside us and answer the call of an individual in need of our help.
