| | SAFE HARBOR UPDATE A coalition of adult entertainment businesses in Atlanta is suing Georgia's Attorney General, Chris Carr, and Department of Revenue Commissioner, Lynn Riley, in response to the passage of the Safe Harbor Act (Rachel's Law) in November 2016. The law states that strip clubs pay $5,000 or 1 percent of their gross revenue, whichever is more, to go the Safe Harbor for Sexually Exploited Children Fund. The coalition is stating that, "The tax is unconstitutional because it places a content-based tax on free speech of which certain members of the Legislature do not approve" (association Executive Director Jill Chambers). The first payment is due April 2018. The hearing in the constitutional challenge to the Adult Business Tax (Rachel's Law/Safe Harbor Fund) is set for March 6, 2018 at 11:30 AM before Judge Russell in Fulton Superior Court. We would like to fill up the courtroom with supporters of the Safe Harbor Fund. If you would like to attend, arrive early, ask for Judge Russell's courtroom and wear royal blue to signify "Sex Trafficking Awareness." We will sit together on the Attorney General's side. | | PORNOGRAPHY AS A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS One February 20, 2018, members of the Out of Darkness Team had to privilege of testifying before the House of Representatives Health & Human Services Committee on behalf of HR 447, declaring pornography a public health crisis. Now we need you! There's still time to email the GA Speaker of the House, David Ralston (david.ralston@house.ga.gov), and the Chairman of the Rules Committee, John Meadows (john.meadows@house.ga.gov), and ask them to get HR447 out of the Rules Committee and to the Floor for a vote.
