Will You Answer the Call?

While We Prepare for Halloween,
Some Neighbors Are Preparing for the Cold
This week, many of us are thinking about costumes, candy and Halloween plans. But across DeKalb, our neighbors living outside and in encampments are preparing for something very different: cold nights.

Frontline Response is preparing too.

\When temperatures fall, our warming center provides a safe place for our neighbors to come inside, eat a warm meal and rest out of the elements.

But opening those doors takes people.
This season, one of our first needs isn't a donation. It's neighbors willing to serve.

We are looking for seasonal team members who can help staff warming-center nights and help us welcome and feed the people who come through our doors.

If you or someone you know needs seasonal overnight work (Nov 1 - March 1)  and wants that work to matter, will you answer the call?

Responding with Kindness. Help us prepare before the cold arrives.

Frontline Response: Warming Centers

Frontline Response’s warming center is designed to provide more than a place to get out of the cold. From November 1 through March 31, the center will operate overnight from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., offering a safe, warm environment where individuals can receive a hot evening meal, settle in for the night, and rest with consistent staff and security support.

When temperatures reach 35°F or below, transportation will also be activated. Frontline Response drivers will help connect individuals across DeKalb to the warming shelter and support transportation between designated locations as needed. If additional capacity is required, backup sites may include Peace Baptist Church, Exchange Park, and a church location in Tucker.

Preparing for the season also means making sure the center is properly equipped. Frontline Response is planning for up to 150 bunk beds with mattresses, sheets, and blankets, along with lobby furniture, kitchen equipment, bulk food supplies, disposable serving items, and cleaning and sanitation materials.

The goal is simple: when cold weather arrives, our neighbors should have access to transportation, a warm meal, a safe place to sleep, and people who are there to welcome and support them through the night.
